HWRSD Learns: Opening Days 2026
Tuesday September 1, 2026 1:30pm - 2:15pm EDT
De-Escalation is a process that involves the use a variety of strategies and interventions to help someone go from crisis to calm. This training will focus on practical, research-based strategies that can help lessen the likelihood of further escalation of a dysregulated student. Despite the development of supportive, safe environments students may, at times become agitated and their behavior may rise to unsafe levels. With some advanced planning and training, educators can utilize proactive interventions and reduce reliance of reactive strategies (restraint, seclusion, suspension, etc.). The strategies discussed also support relationship building with students which is a pillar of improved student behavior. The strategies discussed can be used with students of all ages and in both regular and special education settings. PreK-12.

Come ready to share challenges you have had (or anticipated challenges you are concerned about going into the new school year) with behavior to discuss with the focus of learning specific pro-active strategies and interventions.
